Have you lost weight, only to regain it again?
You keep losing the same 5kg, over and over again?
Don’t worry, you’re not alone!
I know for myself over the years I’ve fluctuated about 5kg. At the top end, I don’t feel great but still in my acceptable range although when I lose 5kg I FEEL AMAZING!
It’s quite surprising, what a difference 5kg can make.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not unhappy when I’m 5kg heavier. I just feel SO MUCH BETTER when I’m leaner, it normally means I’m eating really well and I’m on track with my exercise.
Whereas, when I’m carrying the extra 5kg it generally means I’m eating too much on the weekends and not being as consistent with my training.
When I’m off track, the weekends roll around and it’s like a flick is switched. I go from eating really well, getting up early to train to an overeating, drinking sloth!
Over the years I have associated having fun and relaxing with food and drink, even though I actually feel worse when I have too much.
So why do we do it to ourselves?
IT’S A HABIT!
If we do something over and over again, whether it’s good or bad it becomes a habit. For me being good all week and then “relaxing” with too much food and drink is simply a habit! I know it doesn’t make me feel better, but I do it anyway.
What do you do when you have a habit that’s holding you back? You create a new “good” habit that replaces the old one.
This might mean abstaining from the treats and drinks on the weekend. This can help you realise you can survive without it and break the cycle.
I’m not normally one for all or nothing but sometimes a period of cutting it out and slowly re-introducing can be better than just trying to have a little bit here and there. Again, this comes down to your personality. If you feel you can just cut it back then go for it, although if it hasn’t work for you in the past try giving it up for a short period of time and slowly re-introducing it later.
So what’s holding you back?
What’s that one habit that’s stopping you from losing and maintaining the weight where you feel AWESOME?
Are you sporadic with your training?
Do you try and stick to fad diets?
Do you put yourself last?
Are you great during the week and then pig-out on the weekend?
Do you drink too much?
Whatever it is, the first step is admitting it’s what’s stopping you from achieving the body you’ve always wanted.
Then you need to go about changing it.
Acknowledge it will be hard.
Realise, you will regularly question why you are trying to make changes.
You will need to constantly remind yourself how much better you will FEEL.
When we stop looking for instant gratification, and instead focus on doing things that make us feel great forever, we are one step closer to feeling and looking the best we possibly can FOR LIFE!
If you’d like to follow my journey on LOSING MY LAST 5KG FOREVER keep an eye on my blog.
My goal is to cut out sugar for at least a month and limit my alcoholic drinks to a maximum of four per week. These seem to be my triggers for going off track so that’s what I will focus on first!
