The Story of Get Active Online

Get Active Online began in 2008 from a simple passion, sharing how powerful health, strength and fitness can be in someone’s life.

What started as a small 12-week program grew into a thriving online fitness community and later a bootcamp and personal training community in Cairns.

Back then, online personal training was still a new concept. Instagram didn’t exist yet, and the fitness world looked very different. But the goal was never to become an influencer or build a content brand. It simply came from a love of how powerful health and fitness can be, and a desire to help others experience that same feeling.

How it All Started

Like many journeys into fitness, it began with a personal transformation.

Discovering the impact that strength training, exercise and healthy habits could have on energy, confidence and mindset was life-changing. What started as a simple 12-week program soon became a passion for helping others experience those same benefits.

As people began achieving results and sharing their experiences, the community grew organically. Clients recommended the program to friends, families and colleagues, and before long Get Active Online had developed into a supportive network of people committed to improving their health.

Over the years the work was featured in national publications, and I had the opportunity to contribute to magazines such as Oxygen Magazine and Women’s Health & Fitness.

But more important than media features were the stories of everyday people discovering what they were capable of when they invested in their health.

Building a Fitness Community

In 2014 the journey expanded beyond online coaching with the launch of a personal training and bootcamp community in Cairns.

What followed over the years was something incredibly special.

Yes, there were many success stories and life-changing transformations, but what made the experience truly rewarding was the sense of community that developed. Clients became training partners, friends and supporters of one another.

We were fortunate to build an incredible coaching team who shared the same philosophy around health, strength and sustainable habits. Together we created an environment where people felt encouraged to invest in themselves and their wellbeing.

Even now, years later, I still hear from people who were part of that community. Hearing someone say that their experience helped change their confidence, their health or the direction of their life is something I will always be grateful for.

Evolving through Life

Like many long careers, my work in fitness has evolved alongside my own life.

I started this journey in my twenties, coached through my thirties and forties, and now find myself approaching fifty and navigating the realities of perimenopause, menopause and the natural changes that come with age.

In 2021 I was also diagnosed with breast cancer. Experiences like that have a way of putting everything into perspective and clarifying what truly matters.

Health is not about extremes.
It is not about punishing workouts or chasing unrealistic expectations.

It is about strength, resilience, balance and building habits that support your life over the long term.

These experiences have deepened my passion for helping women understand how to stay strong, healthy and energised through midlife and beyond.

Today, Get Active Online operates primarily as a resource site where I share insights, reflections and practical ideas around training, nutrition and navigating midlife health.

After more than 18 years in the fitness industry, I still love learning, training and sharing what I discover along the way.

Right now this space is simply about sharing the journey – offering tips, perspective and encouragement for women who want to stay strong, healthy and energised as they age.
