My intro to Getactive was by a friend who said “why don’t you come to bootcamp with me tomorrow morning” And that was all it took. I was hooked. I signed my 17-year-old daughter and myself, up for morning bootcamps. We became so committed to going to those early mornings sweat and laughathons that we decided to push ourselves harder and join the 12-week Fit and Lean program.
For the last year or so Jessie and I haven’t really done much fitness together except going to the gym every now and then, which was BORING. So I thought this was a great opportunity for her and I too have some bonding time whilst getting fit…. Much to her horror of what I have just signed her up for.
The first couple of weeks we both struggled with writing everything down and being honest about it especially since Hilde would ride us if we had to much sugar but god it made us really conscious of what we where putting in our bodies.
The food bible, as I call it, came with lots of alternative foods and yummy recipes. I especially like the green chicken curry.
After a couple of weeks of following Hilde’s food suggestions and doing bootcamp and PT sessions with Cameron, we noticed our body size changing as well as our fitness level was improving. We could do more push ups, more squats more arm curls. The list goes on. With all this improvement going on we concentrated more on what we where eating cause as you will hear Hilde saying over and over “70% of losing weight is what you eat.” So with that in mind we cut down on sugary food not completely eliminating them but reducing it, we didn’t eat carbs for dinner and if you want a piece of fruit, eat it before you do some exercise so you burn it off.
We’ve had our ups and downs as everybody does but we kept going with Hilde and Cams encouragement. We both really enjoyed our PT sessions with Cameron as he focused on strengthening our core muscles as well as our endurance. He is always there encouraging us to try new things but also doing exercise that both of us enjoyed. We are fitter then we have been in ages and we are willing to have a go at anything that Hilde and Cam put in front of us. So much so I decided to go in a small triathlon this year, 750m swim, 20k bike ride and 5k run. It was awesome to be able to finish.
This journey has been hard but very rewarding. It takes a lot of effort and commitment to get a non-morning person up at 5:45am but after a while you get use to it and your body is craving for some exercise.
I would and will be recommending everyone and everybody to go and see Hilde and Cam if they are ready to change their lives.
Thanks you so much Hilde and Cam.
